About Us

The Bronx Charter School for Excellence (BCSE), also known as Bronx Excellence, was established in 2004, in the Parkchester neighborhood of the Bronx, NY. Bronx Excellence is a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School Award honoree – the U.S. Department of Education's highest honor for schools across the country. In 2015 Bronx Excellence was renamed Bronx Excellence 1 Elementary and Bronx Excellence 1 Middle. Additionally, Excellence Community Schools, Bronx Excellence's charter management (or parent) organization, opened the Connecticut affiliate school Stamford Excellence,  along with Bronx Excellence 2 in Morris Park, Bronx Excellence 3 and Bronx Excellence 4 in Wakefield, and Bronx Excellence 5 in Tremont. Our affiliate schools are based on the K-8 Blue Ribbon model of the original Bronx Excellence and will grow by one grade level per year until they become full service K-8 academies.

Bronx Excellence 1 is a SUNY Education Department Reward School as well as a Substantial Progress School in Good Standing. Bronx Excellence 1 is currently one of the most competitive charter schools in the five boroughs. Once a part of the Bronx Excellence community, scholars can participate in extracurricular and enrichment activities on both the elementary and middle school levels; these include: Charter School Athletics Association, Glee Club, Intramural Sports, Language Arts, Martial Arts, Music Theory, Robotics, Sensory Arts and Student Council.
