The Bronx Charter School for Excellence (BCSE), also known as Bronx Excellence 1-3 and Middle, is a K-8 free, public charter school network serving the Parkchester, Morris Park and Wakefield neighborhoods of the Bronx, NY. Bronx Excellence is among the highest performing charter schools in New York City and State. In 2012, Bronx Excellence gained recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School – the U.S. Department of Education’s highest honor for schools across the country.
Bronx Excellence 2 elementary school is led by Principal Sharleen Morris (K-1) and Principal Adije Okpo (2-3) based on the Blue Ribbon K-8 model originated at Bronx Excellence 1. Bronx Excellence 1 and Middle serve as the flagship school or "oldest sibling" of Bronx Excellence 2 (K-2) and Bronx Excellence 3 (K-1). Both Bronx 2 and 3 will grow an additional grade level each year until they reach 8th grade. All together, the trio forms the Bronx Excellence Network, operated by Excellence Community Schools, a charter management organization founded by Dr. Charlene Reid, former BCSE Head of School.
