The ECS athletic offerings (softball, volleyball, soccer, and basketball) give scholars the opportunity to progress their self-confidence, prove their ability to work in an instantly-accountable group setting, and understand the responsibilities of a student-athlete and all that comes therein including GPA maintenance, behavioral maturity and time management.
These on- and off-court life lessons benefit our students in future circumstances well beyond the field or court. Developing real-time strategies while practicing active leadership, team dynamics, and listening skills are vital to realizing accomplishment in school, sports and beyond.
Did You Know? After-school Activities improve academic performance, classroom behavior, reduce drug use and criminal behavior, and contribute to healthy eating and regular exercise.
Introducing ECS is excited to announce the production of the Innovation Floor! Our new Director of STEM Initiatives, Kwame Kyei, will be hosting coding, 3D -printing and app making while preparing a curriculum directly coordinated with the middle school Science and Math departments.
The ECS extracurricular community at Bronx Excellence and Stamford Excellence gladly support motivated scholars who excel scholastically and artistically throughout the school year. Bobcats at all schools share their talents through special electives during the day such as music and capoeira. In 2016, selective enrichment programs our scholars have participated in include:
- Breakthrough New York
- Camp Broaderway
- Oliver Scholars
- Prep for Prep/Prep for Prep 9
- Riverdale Academic & Athletic Program
- TEAK Fellowship
- Cardinal Spellman Pilots Enrichment Program
- DOE Summer in the City
- Fordham Prep Higher Achievement Program
- Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship
- NCAA Academic Eligibility
- Preston Summer Sports Clinics
- Preston Young Women's Leadership Workshop
Scholars learn tangible skills and exercises that will enhance their applications, resumes and portfolios through school-based afterschool commitments such as Glee Club or Student Government and city-wide competitions such as the SMARTS Spelling Bee and the Annual Urban Advantage Science Fair.
Scholars who make Honor Roll also go on field trips to professional offices throughout the city. Past visits have included: Morgan Stanley, Math for America, Venture for America, Bronx Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare, The Little Card Company, JLL Real Estate and Fit for Dance.
