Partnerships

Our “Build the Bronx” initiative has focused on sourcing lifelong educators from the community and for the community. ECS has found that individuals who reside in the neighborhoods in which they teach are more likely to be committed to and invested in the success of its schools. This supports both the pipeline for high-quality instructional staff as well as the longevity and retention of highly valued teachers. “Build the Bronx” began with establishing relationships with teacher and school leader preparation programs at local and regional colleges and universities. Currently, ECS has active partnerships with Monroe College, NYU Steinhardt, and Manhattanville College. These partnerships allow pre-service education majors to conduct field placements, practicums, residencies/fellowships, and student teaching hours at our schools.

Parents Association

Bronx Excellence Parents Association
All parents of Bronx Excellence scholars are invited to become members of the Bronx Excellence Parents Association (BEPA). It is our goal to enable as much involvement in the classroom as possible while promoting clear and positive communication. Parents, guardians and siblings play a vital role in scholar functions through open forums, field trips, and volunteerism.

All Bronx parents are encouraged to get involved throughout the year. Consider becoming a member by participating in the planning of one of our signature events such as 100th Day of School, Friendship Day and Field Day, or by holding a leadership position on the Parents Association Executive Board.

Community Partners

Urban AdvantageSince 2004, eight of New York City’s leading cultural institutions — including museums, zoos, and botanical gardens — have worked with the New York City Department of Education to support effective science instruction in the city’s middle schools. This unprecedented partnership was called “Urban Advantage” to highlight the unique concentration of science-rich cultural institutions students can access in New York City. Participating institutions include: the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH), the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, the New York Botanical Garden, the New York Hall of Science, the Queens Botanical Garden, the Staten Island Zoo, the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Bronx Zoo and New York Aquarium, and the New York City Department of Education, with leadership funding from the New York City Council.

Cool Culture

Cool Culture offers education partners Professional Development workshops and a wide variety of resources focused on family involvement through the arts, in addition to producing family events and multilingual educational materials for all 50,000 families.
